Frequently asked questions

Here are a few answers to questions we find often crop up in the wedding planning process. Of course, our Events Team are on hand from the moment you book your wedding to give you advice and support.

VENUE

Is there heating and air conditioning at Davenport House?

Yes, throughout the venue.

Do you have disabled access and facilities?

Ramps can be provided for ground floor areas. One room in the cottages is wheelchair accessible. Please notify our events team if you would like to view this room to ascertain its suitability.

Where can guests leave coats and presents?

Coats can be hung in the cloakroom area under the stairs and presents can be left on the card and present table which we will point out to your guests.

What photographic locations are available?

Davenport House has extensive gardens and outdoor space, with several areas providing beautiful backdrops, as well as several locations within the house.

How many guests can be accommodated for a civil ceremony?

100

What about music during the ceremony?

Many couples book classical musicians to provide music during the ceremony. Pre-recorded music is also popular, but songs must be approved by the Bridgnorth Registration Team prior to the wedding. There are many power sockets in the venue to plug in a mini sound system or MP3 player.

Is confetti allowed?

We only allow biodegradable confetti and real petals which are to be thrown outside so as not to damage the venue or the environment.

Can we have candles at our wedding?

Yes, you can, and these are supplied by Davenport House. Please talk to your event manager for the selection available and costs.

Are tables, chairs and benches included in hire price?

Yes, and a number of high chairs are also available.

Are fireworks allowed?

Unfortunately, fireworks are not permitted. Sparklers are acceptable if couples also bring a bucket of sand to extinguish them.

Are Chinese lanterns allowed?

We cannot allow Chinese lanterns due to livestock located nearby.

Do you have a sound limiter, and what is it set at?

Yes, it is set to 92 decibels.

How do I confirm my wedding?

If you wish to book a date at Davenport House, please contact us on 01746 716021 and we will be able to check available dates and make the booking for you. You will then receive an email with login details for our booking portal. This enables you to double check the date and price and review the terms of your booking. We can hold the date for 48 hours after which a deposit is required to confirm your booking.

Will I need to pay a deposit?

Deposits are due within 48 hours of reserving your wedding date. You can find out more about prices by speaking to our events team.

Who books the ceremony?

You are responsible for contacting the local registrar to inform them of your chosen venue, your wedding date and preferred time.

The stunning St Peters Church at the bottom of the drive provides a wonderful option for a religious ceremony. Contact Rev Jeannetta Stokes on 01746 716698 to enquire about holding your ceremony here.

What rooms are licensed for ceremonies?

The Great Hall, Saloon and Drawing Room are all licensed to hold civil ceremonies. You can decide which room you prefer, and which suits your guest numbers.

Can we get married outside?

Outdoor ceremonies can be performed on the impressive front steps of the house in front of your guests. The registrars will then invite you into the Saloon to sign the register.

How many can Davenport House seat for wedding breakfasts?

Davenport House can seat up to 150 for a wedding breakfast.

ACCOMMODATION

Is there accommodation on-site?

Yes, Davenport has four beautiful en-suite bedrooms in the house and four characterful cottages in the grounds and can currently sleep up to 32 guests. From 2020 there will be nine bedrooms available in the house and the capacity will increase to 42. We can also supply Z-beds for children in the rooms and cottages.

DoI have to take the accommodation?

You do not have to take the accommodation if you do not wish to.

How much is the accommodation?

Bedrooms in the house are £150 including breakfast.
Cottages in the grounds are £300 per cottage. All cottages are very close by and just a minute’s walk to the main house.

Will we be able to stay at the venue the night before the wedding?

This is something that may be possible, depending on availability closer to the date of your wedding. Please speak with our team if this is something that you maybe interested in.

Can I allocate rooms to my guests?

Yes, once you have booked your wedding date you will have access to our accommodation booking system which will allow you to pay and allocate as many rooms as you wish. Two months after you have booked your wedding date (or earlier if you’d like us to), we will open up the booking system to your guests which will enable them to book their own rooms.

Where is breakfast served?

Breakfast is served in the Morning Room on the second floor of the house, which offers stunning views over the countryside while you dine.

GETTING TO DAVENPORT HOUSE

Will my guests be able to find the venue easily?

Yes, but we recommend that you share a copy of the directions to Davenport House with your guests.

Where can my guests park?

There is a car park that guests will be directed to on the day with space for up to 200 cars.

Where is the nearest train station?

Wolverhampton is the nearest train station which is 20 minutes away.

FOOD & DRINK

What drinks are included in the menu packages?

Two to three reception drinks per person, half a bottle of wine per person and a glass of bubbly for the toast per person. We also serve complimentary orange juice and mineral water (still and sparkling) during the drinks reception and mineral water during the meal.

Can we order additional bottles of wine?

Yes, you can order additional wines to be served during your meal.

Is it possible to choose drinks from the other packages if we choose the Deluxe package?

Yes, we are flexible with our drinks packages and are happy to accommodate your selection.

Is it possible to choose a couple of dishes?

We recommend that you choose one starter, one main course and one dessert.

Can we create our own menu?

Yes, we will work with you to provide the perfect menu for your wedding day.

If we choose the Standard package, can we have canapés?

Yes, you can add canapés as an upgrade.

How many canapés do you suggest?

We recommend four canapés per person.

I have a copy of an old menu brochure but would like a dish from the new menu brochure. Is this possible?

You can choose dishes from any of our brochures and you still pay the same package price that you were quoted when you paid your catering deposit.

Can you cater for our guests who are vegetarian or have food allergies?

Yes, we have vegetarian options in our Fine Food packages and we can also provide a different menu to accommodate guests who have food allergies.

Do you have food options available for children?

We have included a delicious and healthy selection of children’s food. We suggest that if a child is under two years old you arrange for the parents to bring something suitable for them. If they are aged between two and ten, we offer a three-course children’s meal option. Guests aged eleven or over are charged at the full adult package price. Orange juice and mineral water will be available throughout.

Should we provide our contractors with a meal?

We recommend that you provide any of your contractors with a meal if they will be spending more than five hours at your wedding. We have two options available; we can provide either a two-course meal from your wedding breakfast menu or a packed lunch. It is a good idea to let your contractors know what to expect, i.e. a meal or a packed lunch.

Do you have a cake stand and cake knife?

Yes. Please speak to the Events Team about the cake stand and knife when discussing your menu.
